Hi! My name is Mrs. Durfee and I am so excited to be a part of La Canada Elementary School's Second grade team! More importantly, I am THRILLED to be your teacher! It is going to be a fun year full of lots of learning and new adventures, and I can't wait to see what the year has in store for us. I want to know all about you, but first I'm going to tell you a few things about me.
I was born in Santa Monica and raised in West Los Angeles (right outside of Santa Monica). I am the oldest of four children. I have identical triplet brothers. We had dogs and fish as pets growing up. After I graduated high school, I went to UCLA and doubled majored in Physiological Sciences and Sociology. I actually wanted to be a Pediatrician because I loved science all through school and I've always loved kids.
I was on my way to Medical School when I met my husband, Brett, right before I graduated. What I wanted more than anything was to be a mother and when I really thought hard about my next move I decided to not go to Medical School. This way I could spend more time with my family down the road. I taught Kindergarten and First grade for 7 years at Palms Elementary - right outside Culver City. I LOVED IT!! Throughout my whole life people said I should be a teacher, but it wasn't until I was actually in the classroom that I figured it out for myself. I went to National University to obtain my teaching credential. I taught for another 8 years in Castaic and have never regretted my decision to become a teacher. It is truly the BEST JOB in the WHOLE WORLD!
My husband and I have four active, energetic boys! They are so much fun. I LOVE them tremendously. We love to jump on the trampoline, go to the beach, and explore!! Most importantly, we love just spending time together as a family.
I am so grateful to be your teacher and I am SO excited you're in my class. It will be an awesome year!
